Each year this series provides a unique, timely, and readable behind-the-scenes look at the world of Rorschach: surveys of the most recent clinical research results, discussions of the instrument's usefulness with regard to specific medical and psychological disorders, how the Rorschach is used in various countries around the world, as well as new insights from seasoned practitioners. As a result, this annual update is engaging, very practical, and almost entertaining. It is helpful for experts, and especially interesting for those just learning Rorschach techniques, such as graduate students in clinical programs.
Volume 22 of Rorschachiana marks the end of Dr. Irving Weiner's tenure as the senior editor for this series of books. Beginning with Volume 18, he developed annual editions of Rorschachiana, each of which has substantially enriched us all. We are grateful to him not only for his careful dedication, but also for his leadership, which has guided us much further ahead. Through his supportive attitude, he has succeeded in building many bridges of understanding across different approaches, and among practitioners from many different parts of the world. As a successor to Dr. Weiner's accomplishments, Prof. Anne Andronikof, of Paris, took over the Editorship. We look forward to still further insights and developments which will be forthcoming with regard to the Rorschach Ink Blot test.
Rorschachiana is the official publication of the International Society of the Rorschach and Projective Methods, now consisting of some 3,000 members throughout the world, which for half a century has played an important role in supporting the use of the instrument, as well as helping to develop extensive empirical research on its effectiveness in specific clinical situations.

This 22nd volume in the Rorschachiana series constitutes yet another major accomplishment, with each author presenting a sound and vigorous treatment of topics being addressed. At the same time, this particular book reflects a trend toward the popular Comprehensive System as a promising tool for determining the validity and reliability of psychological assessment through the Rorschach Method. Most of the contributions this year concern new research, and they stress the authors' concern with accounting for normative criteria and drawing upon a general level of analysis on a nontheoretical basis. This approach therefore confronts us with an interesting challenge - To what extent will the further development of our understanding of the Rorschach allow our viewpoints to converge, along both theoretical and empirical lines, to the ultimate benefit of practitioners?
The present volume of Rorschachiana includes contributions from Brazil, Canada, England, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Venezuela, and the United States, bringing the number of countries represented in the 1993 - 1997 Yearbooks to nineteen. The current selection of papers offers a wide range of approaches providing empirical, cognitive, and psychoanalytical scope to Rorschach interpretation, including developments regarding the T.A.T. method, as well as interesting issues related to the integration of several different approaches to Rorschach assessment.

Having read the articles of Rorschachiana XXI several thoughts spring to mind. First of all its meaning and place as a result of its change four years ago. Is it a modern Areopagus? Or an Agora? Or both? Certainly it is a review which provides space for experts in projective methods coming from all over the world to express their views: A place of confluence and comparison of new approaches, theories, and methods. An incentive for studying, criticizing, revising, rigorous questioning, and conceptual deepening. The source of the beginning of a movement whose features and contours are still unclear, but with inevitable consequences for this mode of psychological assessment.
"Reading the contributions in this volume, I was struck by the consistency and audacity of some of them, by the opportune and enriching information in others, and by the stimulating results that yet others present. The book stimulates one to both consider past work, and look with enthusiasm and satisfaction at the high quality of new work that is currently being performed."
